MONT GABRIEL, Quebec (Jan. 25) - Ryan St. Onge (Winter Park, CO) and Jana Lindsey (Black Hawk, SD) took the lead for the U.S. Sunday, finishing seventh and eighth in an aerials World Cup in Quebec. Steve Omischl of Canada and Lydia Lassila of Australia won.

St. Onge, the defending national champion in aerials, was coming off a fifth place finish in Lake Placid's World Cup last week. Lindsey has also picked up momentum with two top tens so far this season.

"St. Onge had the best jump by far in the first round, and he was sitting in fourth after it," Christensen said. "It was huge and had a really great landing. The second round he pulled his feet too soon and it caused him to slap back, which cost him a second place. It was disappointing.

"Unfortunately, we let that bother us because the scores were all over the place."

Lindsey was sitting in fifth after the first jump, and she was doing a new jump on the second.

"She landed really well and just touched her hand and they killed her for it. It cost her third place," Christensen said.

"For the first jump, I did a full-double-full which went pretty well. I landed well and skied away from it," Lindsey said. "Then for the second jump I did a double-full-full which is sort of the reverse of that. It was a new jump on snow for me and I had a little trouble with it."

Lindsey started working on the jump, which scores a higher degree of difficulty, with her eyes on more top finishes.

"I started working on it this summer. And then, recently, I got pretty happy with it. Once I start landing it I'll be able to be more competitive," she said. "I feel pretty confident right now. I have been pretty consistent, so I'm really looking forward to next weekend."

The World Cup moves on to Deer Valley next week, a marquis event for the freestylers at the Visa Freestyle International.

"Park City is where I live, so it's sort of home for me. We always have a big crowd and they put on a great event. It's always really fun," Lindsey said.

Action begins with moguls Thursday afternoon and gets into high gear with aerials Friday night under the lights. The World Cup continues with skier halfpipe Saturday afternoon at Park City Mountain Resort with the dual moguls finale Saturday night at Deer Valley Resort.
