BIOGRAPHY
High-energy Olympian Michelle Roark learned to ski using her brother's hand-me-down boots while growing up in Colorado. And, although she may not look much taller than when she got started, Roark has fought back from injuries to become one of the top performers in her sport, including a World Cup title and moguls silver medal at the 2003 World Championships.
UPDATE
A determined veteran and newly crowned U.S. Champion in the 2009 season, Michelle is, without a doubt, a great competitor. As her coaches say, when things are tough she's the one who has the heart and skill to end up on the podium. That's the goal for 2010 and, with her training and conditioning program in gear, Roark's sights are set on success.
FIRST TRACKS
High costs drove her out of figure skating so she shifted to skiing, a family activity. "I put a rolled-up sock in them (her boots) so they fit," she laughed. Junior national moguls champ in '90, Roark missed the next two seasons with injuries, returned and then headed to college for a couple of seasons. Coming back after the '98 Olympics, she celebrated with her beloved Denver Broncos in late January '99 - they won the Super Bowl and she won World Cup moguls and then duals on consecutive days that same weekend in Blackcomb, BC
