BIOGRAPHY
Vermonter Dave Babic (BAA-bik) shifted from basketball to moguls after watching the 1994 Olympics on TV. In 2002, he won a NorAm title, in '03 he reached a World Cup podium and the next year he was a World Cup winner. His athleticism and energy have made him a contender ever since.
UPDATE
According to coaches, David is the solid veteran of the team with podiums every year to show for it. In 2009 a second-place finish on the World Cup reiterated his consistent athletic abilities and now the seasoned athlete has turned his focus to 2010 as he aims to be a contender at the Olympics in Vancouver.
FIRST TRACKS
Skiing since he was 8, Babic was floored when he watched Jean-Luc Brassard collect a gold medal in the '94 Olympics. Babic said, "I wondered, ‘You can get a medal for doing that?' I was blown away." He enrolled in Nick Preston's program at Waterville Valley, NH, then moved to Colorado to ski with Brian McNamara, coach of Team Breck (now Team Summit). During the summer of 2001, he and a friend camped in Mt. Hood to improve their skiing. Training with Breck's John Dowling, he set the table for ensuing success. He started as a combined skier and competed in inverted aerials at the NorAm level; coaches feel that background - and Babic's natural athleticism - helped him quickly grasp off-axis moves.
FIRST WORLD CUP

OLYMPICS/WORLDS
2007 Worlds - 24th in duals, fifth in moguls. 2005 Worlds - ninth in duals. 2003 Worlds - ninth in duals.
I AM
A closet outdoorsman.
