VAL d'ISERE, France (Feb. 9) - Double world champion Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) suffered a cut to her right thumb Monday evening following her win in the World Championship downhill. Vonn was treated at the team hotel by U.S. Ski Team Dr. Jeff Harrison with stitches to close the wound. According to U.S. Ski Team Medical Director Richard Quincy, Dr. Harrison will continue to observe her in the next days. It is not anticipated that she will miss any individual competitions.

Vonn cut her hand while opening a champagne bottle during a victory celebration following the awards ceremony in Val d'Isere.

"I really think I'm safer skiing downhill at 85 miles per hour," laughed Vonn. "I'm in a little bit of pain, but this shouldn't slow me down."

Vonn, who has won the World Championship super G and downhill, is scheduled to compete in the giant slalom Thursday and Saturday's closing slalom.
