ST. MORITZ, Switzerland (Dec. 19) - Sweden's Anja Paerson laid down the fastest super G run to take the win during a super combined at the Audi FIS World Cup in St. Moritz, Switzerland on Friday. The U.S. Ski Team's Chelsea Marshall (Pittsfield, VT) led the way for U.S. athletes, finishing 29th after World Cup leader Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) skied out in the slalom portion.

"It was a challenging day. With the weather, they had to move the start down quite a ways just to be able to pull the super combined off because the wind was pretty strong," said Women's Alpine Head Coach Jim Tracy. "Nevertheless, I think the super G portion went really well. The women, especially the younger ones, stepped up."

The U.S. Ski Team's Leanne Smith (Conway, NH) and Mashall each led the U.S. field after the super G run with Smith in fourth and Marshall in 10th, but ran into trouble in the slalom run.

"In the slalom, clearly some of our speed women aren't slalom racers, but the went out and charged it and that's all you can ask for," Tracy said.

Vonn, who was 14th in the super G, ran into trouble in her slalom run and did not finish.

"Lindsey skied a little bit round in the turny section. She was fast at the bottom, but the course was so short that you couldn't make any mistakes," Tracy said. "You had to be precise and take risks."

Smith and Julia Mancuso (Olympic valley, CA) also had trouble in the same slalom spot as Vonn and neither of them finished. Stacey Cook (Mammoth, CA) clipped a gate and lost a ski.

Race officials in St. Mortiz have moved the super G to Saturday and the downhill to Sunday due to anticipated weather conditions.

At the team captains meeting following the super combined, race officials said they will bring machines on the entire course tonight to re-till it in order to get all the drifts off the course for Saturday's super G. Catch the race live on UniversalSports.com at 4:45 a.m. ET.

"Tomorrow is another day and we're going to be charged up and ready to go," Tracy said.
