RINN, Austria (Jan. 9) – Allison Jones (Winter Park, CO) led the U.S. with the top finish for both the men and women, landing in second place in the World Cup slalom race in Rinn. Danelle Umstead (Taos, NM) Caitlin Sarubbi (Brooklyn, NY), and Stephani Victor (Park City, UT) also had solid finishes placing in the top five.

Foggy weather made the slalom race on the old Innsbruck Olympic hill quite difficult forcing much of the field to DNF. Despite the weather, the course was set well with a fast track allowing skiers the chance for success.

"Today it was really foggy but good course conditions, said Head Coach Ray Watkins. "The Olympic course, here in Innsbruck, is awesome for our team to ski on. The snow is super hard, it challenged the field. There were a lot of DNF's."

Jones, who had the best finish for both the men's and women's team, was just shy of the win for the women's standing division. Germany's Andrea Rothfuss beat Jones by a mere two hundredths to take the win.

"Allison Jones was two hundredths out of first in second place," said Watkins. "She won the second run and just skied great."

Victor ended the day in fifth place in the standing classification after experiencing a bit of trouble in her first run resulting in hiking. Umstead  finished back to back with Sarubbi in the visually impaired classification finishing fourth.

Germany racked up the most wins, with Martin Braxenthaler in the men's sit-ski, Rothfuss in the women's standing, and Vivienne Forest winning the visually impaired. Australia's Cameron Rahles-Rahbula won the men's standing and Canada's Chris Williamson won the visually impaired. Austria's Claudia Loesch won the women's.

The U.S. Adaptive Team will redirect it's focus on Sunday as they head to Abtenau, Autria for the next World Cup.

"It was a tough day," explained Watkins. "It's good to get these tough days out of the way."
